Assertion analysis #7 Arthur Miller
A paradox is absurd it’s hard to talk about because it is hard to understand in some ways. It is almost never ending, everything just Contradicts itself making it almost impossible to be solved or find a solution for a paradox. Arthur Miller realized that “the Salem tragedy” was a huge paradox that kept on Contradicting itself with the witch hunting happening along with the panic being caused because of all these lies being created and people dying because of it. Using complex sentences Arthur Miller helps us understand how a paradox really works and how It connects with “the Salem tragedy”.
The paradox for Salem is a paradox because “all organization is and must be grounded on the idea of exclusion and prohibition, just as two objects cannot occupy the same space.” In the Salem people would start and spread lies just to say themselves, the truth could not be shared because that person would probably be accused of being a witch. Witch hunting caused people to lie over and over again and this caused people to panic, it just made people lie even more because they were scared to be accused of being a witch and being hunted. It caused destruction all around, making never ending lies and people being hunted for being a “witch”.
People during this time believed that killing all these people because they where witch’s was for a good purpose. It was to make their community pure and go back to the way it was but after that tragedy their community could not because it showed how Corrupted everything was and people didn’t want to be apart of that. The main purpose of them doing the witch hunting and causing panic was a failed attempt to keep their community from falling apart. They wanted to keep the evil from entering, instead they let the evil come in and started accusing and killing innocent people.
Witch hunting and the panic of the community was the true evil that everyone was trying so hard to keep out. Many that lived in Salem believed that lying and starting all these Accusations would help and keep them from the same fate and being evil, but in reality they were the ones being evil and the one that was accused of being a witch that was evil was just and innocent person that wasn’t a evil witch.
