Assertion analysis blog #5 chief Joseph

Chief Joseph had surrendered to the U.S. army because he had given up on fighting for so long. many people had been surprised on how chief Joseph surrendered because they went through a lot of suffering to just surrender in the end. their tribe had been bothered all through out the years because the government wanted the land for the resources, to just use it. At first the native american's didn't like the thought of this because the earth and land where very valuable for the Nez Peerce tribe, but they had been fighting with the U.S. army for so long that they just couldn't fight and longer and chief Joseph didn't want his tribe to get hurt anymore. Chief Joseph tone during his surrender speech helps the readers understand the reason for his speech along with the shift's that he makes all through out the speech helping us understand his point for making the "surrender speech".
In the beginning of his speech it starts off with a very forward, mad, serious tone. It's like he wants them to understand that what they're doing is making us very angry and it's not right at all. He says "our chiefs are killer; looking glass is dead, Ta Hool Hool Shute is dead. the old men are all dead." His straight forward tone let's us know immediately that his people were killed, his culture and tradition were killed because old men that are now dead cant continue to tell the culture and traditions. He also says " Ta Hool Hool Shute is dead", this sounds like a very native american name, he could be saying that our native names were killed because they have more american names. The chief's are killed meaning his people are lost because you killed our chiefs. By using this tone it really help's people understand or see his surrender speech in different ways, whether it's good or bad.
His way of using a straight forward tone is good because towards the middle, and end of his surrender speech his tone changes and then comes the shift of sadness. The shift and change in tone show that whats happening is serious. chief Joseph starts talking about children dying because they froze to death, by not having blankets, and no food. It starts making us think that chief Joseph probably surrendered because they simply cant fight the fight anymore, their children are dying, and their people are dying to often. If this keeps on happening then their tribe could disappear slowly because they are being killed off slowly. chief Joseph being one of the last chiefs sees this and decides to protect his people and surrenders.
When chief Joseph uses the literary devices the way he uses them it makes us understand the meaning for him writing the "i'm tired of fighting"(surrender speech). we know that he surrendered to protect his people because there had been kids dying and many of his people dying and this could cause a quick end to his tribe.
