Assertion analysis blog #4 Lame Deer

The white man came and taught the Native Americans their civilized way, because the native had such a “horrible” way of living. Lame Deer is a Native American that shares the reality of the natives situation, he participated in many movements to help the natives story become more clear. He truly cares for his Native American community. His way of telling the story is very straight and clear. Setting a satirical tone helps readers understand his real feelings about the situation, he also involves diction to show the importance of the native Americans history and how they were wronged.
When Lame Deer uses these devices, he makes them work together to show how the whole issue effects him and the Native American community. By him using diction and satirical tone it makes his feelings obvious, it helps everyone understand the real meaning of him writing “seeker of visions”. Knowing that the white man came into the natives indigenous land and saw that they had no kind of prison, no delinquents, no thieves, no money because people were valued for themselves, giving things for free if needed, he wants to inform people that the white man claim to be the superior, but in reality they are the ones who where evil and selfish.
Native American culture had been fading away ever since the white race cane and invaded their land. Lame Deer and his ancestors really valued their culture, they had a very peaceful, caring community. The fact that it was taken away from them makes lame deer upset. The way he involves satire in his story shows how serious the problem was, it says at one point “Before our white brothers arrived to make us civilized men.”. The white race was seen as the enime and for the most part disliked by the natives, they could never see them as brothers and couldn’t accept the white men turing then into “civilized men”. Till this day natives are trying to build up their culture do to the situation that happened years ago. They try to find and learn their language because the whites thought it was uncivilized, there is certain events that natives go to and celebrate their tradition. This shows that the Native American community is strong and will build up their culture no matter what happens.
It’s very heartbreaking with what natives went through. They had their land and culture taken away, due to this it took a long time to build their culture and community back up. Lame Deer really did write this story to show how much damage was done to the natives by the white man, he also wanted to show his view towards the whole issue.
