     Chief Joseph had surrendered to the U.S. army because he had given up on fighting for so long. many people had been surprised on how chief Joseph surrendered because they went through a lot of suffering to just surrender in the end. their tribe had been bothered all through out the years because the government wanted the land for the resources, to just use it.
