Puritans believed that they were superior and any other belief or religion was wrong. The puritans community had extremely strong beliefs and because of this they were kicked out of England. John Winthrop was a puritan that wrote a speech that scared people into following him and his plans, most puritans were like this. John created this illusion that made fear among the puritans so that they can follow him. he also used diction to shape his words and manipulate the audience.      John Winthrop main goals for him and the puritans that followed him were to be the better or superior race and religion. He used many different things to threaten the group of puritans into believing him. he would say "the eyes of all people are upon us; so that if we shall deal falsely with our god in this work we have undertaken". He was letting them know that if they mess up then it would give people a reason to talk down at them, and the puritans had already been kicked ...

Chief Joseph had surrendered to the U.S. army because he had given up on fighting for so long. many people had been surprised on how chief Joseph surrendered because they went through a lot of suffering to just surrender in the end. their tribe had been bothered all through out the years because the government wanted the land for the resources, to just use it. At first the native american's didn't like the thought of this because the earth and land where very valuable for the Nez Peerce tribe, but they had been fighting with the U.S. army for so long that they just couldn't fight and longer and chief Joseph didn't want his tribe to get hurt anymore. Chief Joseph tone during his surrender speech helps the readers understand the reason for his speech along with the shift's that he makes all through out the speech helping us understand his point for making the "surrender speech".      In the beginning of his speech it starts off with a very forward, mad...

The white man came and taught the Native Americans their civilized way, because the native had such a “horrible” way of living. Lame Deer is a Native American that shares the reality of the natives situation, he participated in many movements to help the natives story become more clear. He truly cares for his Native American community. His way of telling the story is very straight and clear. Setting a satirical tone helps readers understand his real feelings about the situation, he also involves diction to show the importance of the native Americans history and how they were wronged.       When Lame Deer uses these devices, he makes them work together to show how the whole issue effects him and the Native American community. By him using diction and satirical tone it makes his feelings obvious, it helps everyone understand the real meaning of him writing “seeker of visions”. Knowing that the white man came into the natives indigenous land and saw...

Assertion analysis blog #3 trump

In Donald Trumps quote “American Dream: Perseverance”, be it taking about different ways you can get over or under the wall that he had built. Using different literary devices like imagery makes someone think a couple of things about trump and the purpose of him writing this quote. Using tone he try’s to create some type of fear towards the immagrants.      When reading the quote from Donald trump, the part when he says “ you can walk away from the wall, you can go over the wall, you can go under the wall, you can go around the wall, you can also obliterate the wall...and then let the positive outdistance the negative”. Trump is setting a satirical tone when saying all the different ways you could get over the wall. He makes it seem as if you can get over the wall, but he will catch you and send you back over that wall because he is more powerful then you, he wants you to think that you can go over the wall and not get caught, but he knows that you wi...

On September 7,2018 Barak Obama had went to university of Illinois to encourage students at the university to get out and vote. In his speech he uses a lot of shifts to get his message across. He starts of with I, you, they, we've, our, we, all of these shifts suggest that he wants the students of Illinois university to vote, along with, decent, honest, hardworking people, you.      The main thing that Barak Obama is diction. There are many times that he used diction to get his point across. One of the times that he used diction in his speech was towards the end when he said "What's going to fix our democracy is you", this last part of his speech plays a big part in his speech because he's main goal was to encourage you to vote, to encourage the ones that are capable to vote to vote, because they are the ones that can do something to help out there future, the future.      In his speech his tone helps the readers and listeners under...

Tupac had wrote this poem in order to represent something, I believe that he was trying to show that you can start off from the very bottom, and grow up to the top. To show that the world isn't always going to give you what you need in life.      This quote Consist of many different literary devices, one of them is imagery. Imagery is a visually descriptive or figurative language especially in a literary work. Tupacs quote has a lot of imagery involved in it because he was trying to be very descriptive with his words, to help people really understand where he was coming from. The words“ Rose From Concre...
